about

The CD Burnt Norton and other Music is the fruit of a long standing collaboration between the composer Brian R. Earl www.brianearl.eu and Matteo Beschi, first trumpet of Parma's Teatro Reggio opera house, and previously first trumpet of Milan's Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra.

The CD opens with the Three Ricercari Op.20, a dramatic tour de force for two trumpets and piano.
Alongside Matteo Beschi as second trumpet is Mauro Edantippe, section trumpeter of Teatro alla Scala, and at the pianoforte is Ada Mauri, for forty years the orchestral pianist in the La Scala orchestra.

There then follow the seven movements of Poem in October, a piece for trumpet alone inspired by Dylan Thomas's poem of the same name. Parts of this work were later used in the sound track of the short Sci-Fi movie Dione by Silvana Zancolò vimeo.com/168768030

The work that gives the CD it's title, Burnt Norton, is for trumpet in C and pianoforte and is in five movements, each one corresponding in expression and form to the five principal divisions of Thomas Stern Eliot's masterpiece from which it takes its title. Once again the piano part is taken by Ada Mauri.

The CD ends with 17 Repetitions for Three Trumpets, a modest tribute to the Beat Generation poets, inspired in particular by the lyric You speak of going, but don't even have a suitcase - a series of repetitions by John Wieners. Imitating the neoclassical form of the poem, composed of 17 one, two or three-line verses, the music presents 17 micro movements that are sometimes classical, sometimes a vague memory of the blues and sometimes just ineffable. Together with Matteo Beschi are Fabrizio Mezzari and Augusto Righi, trumpets.

The music on this recording is published by Wiltshire Music www.wiltshiremusic.com
